Summer 2016 Updates
2016 has been a busy year for Hummingbird Press so far!
Over the past several months, Edie has been busy preparing for her recording project. This past week, Edie traveled to Philadelphia, PA to record her CD, "Clay Jug", with The Crossing and PARMA Recordings. She had an excellent time working with the choir and instrumentalists, and recorded in the church pictured on this post. The CD is set for release in 2017. For more information about this project, visit the "Clay Jug" Fractured Atlas page.
Edie's music was performed all around the U.S., and even in France and the Netherlands.
Check out Edie's new Youtube page! Edie's art songs were recently featured at the NATS Convention in Chicago, and we invite you to watch the most recent additions to her Youtube page : Between the Limbs, Music and The Giver of Stars: Six Poems of Amy Lowell.

Three New Choral Works Available from Hummingbird Press!
Three new choral works are available for listening and purchase -- "Cancion de el Alma: en una noche escura," commissioned by Classical Minnesota Public Radio for the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir (premiered 2013); "From the Wingbone of a Swan," commissioned by The Valborg Choir of the Netherlands (premiered 2013); and "We Bloomed in Spring," written for the Senior Choir at Plymouth Congregational Church and Philip Brunelle (premiered 2014).
Hill's three newest choral works continue to emphasize one of her strongest gifts as a composer -- her ability to choose and exquisitely set powerful texts. "Cancion del el Alma: en una noche escura" sets one of a trilogy of poems writte by 16th century Spanish mystic St. John of the Cross, most commonly known as "The Dark Night of the Soul." In "From the Wingbone of a Swan," Hill partnered with Timothy O'Brien to craft texts that were inspired by an article about paleolithic flutes, humans' earliest known instrument other than the voice. The poetry of Daniel Ladinsky -- inspired by writing of St. Teresa of Avila -- shines in "We Bloomed in Spring," a celebration of hope and life.
Listen to each piece and peruse scores by visiting the Purchase Music page at www.ediehill.com.
New choral work 'Cancion de el Alma' is now available for purchase from Hummingbird Press
Cancion de el Alma: en una noche escura was commissioned by Classical Minnesota Public Radio for the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir. I invite you to visit here to peruse the score and listen to the debut performance by the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir (recorded by Classical MPR at Cathedral of St Paul, November 22, 2013).
The text, often referred to as “The Dark Night of the Soul” is one in a trilogy of poems written by 16th century Spanish mystic St John of the Cross. The message of the poem that I found most moving is the idea of allowing the fire that burns in my heart to guide me.
Above the Green Night Featured on New Album.
The critically acclaimed Tantalus Guitar quartet's highly anticipated new album, Foolish Fire, features Edie's stunning work for guitar quartet, Above the Green Night.
Above the Green Night takes its inspiration from two works by Spain's greatest modern poet, Federico Garcia Lorca. In the first movement, "Blind Archers," hear the crack of longbows over insistent, galloping pedal points. The reflective second movement, "Hour of Stars," begins with four solos, each elegantly handed over to the next, only to finish in a sea of twinkling harmonics, delicately fading away as if the morning sun were beginning to rise.
To purchase the CD or learn more about Tantalus, be sure to visit their website for more information!
